Mini USA will enter the 2026 Rebelle Rally with an adventure-focused Countryman prototype, giving the compact SUV roughly 1,500 miles of off-road competition to demonstrate its durability. Mini plans to reveal the vehicle globally just before the event, but it has not confirmed the prototype’s name, powertrain, or whether the variant will be sold in the United States.

Felicia Killman will drive, with Erika Ferrer handling navigation, as the pair crosses Nevada and California during Mini’s first Rebelle Rally entry. The competition bans GPS use after the start, requiring teams to rely on maps, compasses, and careful route planning.

What Mini has confirmed

The prototype is based on the current Mini Countryman and represents a more rugged model variant rather than a straightforward appearance package. Mini has not yet described it as a full production vehicle for the US market, leaving its showroom future open until the reveal.

Three BMW Group engineers—James Wallace, Dennis Heaphy, and Eran Garma—led the build with an emphasis on surviving remote trails instead of maximizing speed. Wallace said the team evaluated every bracket, mount, and panel for the demands of operating far from paved roads, refining the vehicle through repeated testing.

The regular Countryman lineup currently includes a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder producing 241 horsepower. The Countryman JCW increases output to 312 horsepower. Mini has not said whether either engine will power the rally prototype or whether it will use a different setup.

Countryman off-road equipment

Visible and reported modifications point to a serious trail-focused build. The prototype wears a Thule roof rack and cargo system, a Heinlein Racing Development skid plate, and Toyo Open Country all-terrain tires. Its suspension appears to provide additional ground clearance, while DealerTire supplied the tires and spare-tire setup.

Morimoto auxiliary lights are mounted on the roof and grille to improve visibility during long remote stages. Pelican weatherproof cases are intended to protect essential equipment from dust and impacts, and a GoPro camera is fitted for documentation. The most eye-catching accessory is the roof-mounted unit believed to be a pop-up tent.

When will the Mini Countryman variant be revealed?

The 2026 Rebelle Rally is scheduled for October 7 through 17, ending at California’s Imperial Sand Dunes with the finish and awards. Mini’s global reveal is expected in the days before the event begins.

Whether the rally vehicle becomes a production model will be a key part of that announcement. If Mini carries over features such as raised suspension, all-terrain tires, and underbody protection, the Countryman could move into the compact off-road SUV space currently occupied by models such as the Jeep Compass Trailhawk and Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness. For now, the rally serves as both a competition debut and a public test of Mini’s more adventurous direction.
