Land Rover Defender colors are crossing over to the music world in a new collaboration between PRS Guitars and John Mayer. The Silver Sky Defender Color Collection brings eight official Defender paint-code finishes to two Silver Sky ranges, with the US-made guitars limited to 500 examples per color and SE orders scheduled to close in mid-2027.

The collection was previewed at Land Rover's Destination Defender event in Temecula, California, held September 11 to 13, 2026. It gives Silver Sky buyers a direct connection to Defender design, including paint-matched headstocks, model-specific neck plates and cases or bags carrying Defender branding.

US-made Silver Sky gets four classic Defender colors

The American-built Silver Sky is available in four heritage Defender shades: Arles Blue, Willow Green, Portofino Red and Sandglow Yellow. Each guitar uses a white pickguard and white control knobs, along with a headstock painted to match the body.

PRS will build a maximum of 500 guitars in each color, limiting the US-made collection to 2,000 guitars overall. Every example includes a hard case stamped with the Defender wordmark. A neck plate identifies the specific Defender color used for the guitar.

Arles Blue has an especially direct link to Mayer. He has owned a 1997 Defender 90 in that shade for years, and he has said the truck's wide range of colors helped inspire the collaboration.

SE Silver Sky adds four modern shades

The SE Silver Sky uses a separate group of contemporary Defender colors: Petra Copper, Sedona Red, Carpathian Grey and Woolstone Green.

These guitars switch to black pickguards and black control knobs, marking the first time those details have appeared on a Silver Sky model, according to PRS. The SE versions also receive a Defender-logo neck plate and a PRS/Defender gig bag rather than the hard case supplied with the US-made guitars.

Unlike the American-built models, the SE guitars do not have a fixed production cap. PRS will continue accepting orders until mid-2027, however, regardless of the number sold. That makes the order deadline the key availability limit for buyers interested in the more accessible range.

Special charity guitars will not be sold

PRS is also producing a small, non-commercial batch finished in British Racing Green. Those guitars will not be offered for retail sale. PRS says they will support fundraising for the Defender Service Awards and The Heart and Armor Foundation, Mayer's veterans' health charity.

The collection's two hardware treatments create a clear visual divide: white details and a hard case for the capped US-made guitars, versus black details and a gig bag for the time-limited SE models. For buyers, the choice is not only between eight Defender colors but also between a numbered production run and a range tied to a firm ordering window.
