Volkswagen has revealed the 2027 ID.3 GTI, replacing the ID.3 GTX as the automaker’s second electric GTI model after the smaller ID. Polo GTI. The rear-wheel-drive hot hatch keeps the GTX’s power figures but becomes the most powerful GTI Volkswagen has developed, with European sales scheduled to begin in spring 2027.

Powertrain and performance

The ID.3 GTI produces 322 hp and 402 lb-ft (545 Nm) of torque from its rear-mounted electric motor. That is one horsepower more than the Golf GTI Edition 50. Despite the new name, the output is unchanged from the ID.3 GTX, so acceleration and top speed remain the same.

  • 0-62 mph (100 km/h): 5.6 seconds
  • Top speed: 124 mph (200 km/h), electronically limited
  • Drive layout: rear-wheel drive

The ID.3 GTI is the first Volkswagen to combine the GTI badge with rear-wheel drive. It continues to use the MEB platform with a rear-mounted motor, while the ID. Polo GTI uses the front-wheel-drive MEB+ architecture.

Battery, range and charging

A lithium-ion battery with 79 kWh of usable energy gives the ID.3 GTI an estimated 373 miles (601 kilometers) of WLTP range. Volkswagen says that is an improvement of six miles (10 km) over the ID.3 GTX.

DC fast charging at up to 183 kW is expected to take 29 minutes to replenish the battery from 10 to 80 percent. The figures are estimates, and the range uses the WLTP testing cycle.

GTI styling and cabin updates

The performance model receives the facelifted styling shared with the standard car, which will be sold as the ID.3 Neo. Exterior changes include a more aggressive front end, red GTI detailing, glossy black trim and vertical LED daytime running lights.

New 20-inch wheels use 225 tires, with wider 235 tires available as an extra-cost option. The front doors carry GTI badges, while a body-colored tailgate replaces the previous black GTX treatment. The roof is also color-matched to the body.

Inside, the ID.3 GTI gains the facelift’s more conventional controls, including physical steering-wheel buttons, a volume knob and dedicated rear-window switches. A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster replaces the smaller driver display, while a 12.9-inch infotainment screen remains part of the package. The touch slider below the screen is gone, replaced by a row of conventional controls on the center console.

GTI mode and availability

A dedicated GTI mode adjusts the car’s systems for maximum performance and activates launch control. It also adds a simulated engine sound intended to evoke the experience of a Golf GTI. Body-hugging front seats and red cabin accents complete the electric hatchback’s GTI treatment.

Volkswagen says the 2027 ID.3 GTI will go on sale in Europe in spring 2027. Pricing has not been announced.
