Polestar has revealed the 2027 Polestar 4 SUV, a more practical version of its electric four-door model with a taller rear section, a conventional glass window and increased cargo capacity. Despite the SUV label, its unchanged length and low-slung profile make it closer to an electric wagon in execution.
The new model measures 190.5 inches (4,840 millimeters) long and 84.2 inches (2,139 mm) wide, matching the Polestar 4 Coupe. Height rises to 61.2 inches (1,556 mm), an increase of nearly 0.9 inches (22 mm). That extra vertical space is designed to make loading taller items easier.
More cargo space and a real rear window
Unlike the Coupe, the 4 SUV uses a heated glass rear window and a concealed rear wiper with an integrated washer. Polestar hides the wiper beneath the rear spoiler to keep the tailgate visually clean. The standard SUV also does away with the Coupe's necessary digital rearview mirror, although a digital rear camera remains available as an option.
Cargo volume rises to 655 liters (23.1 cubic feet) when measured up to the inner roof with the rear seats in place. Loading only to the seatbacks provides 530 liters (18.7 cu ft), while the front storage area adds another 15 liters (0.5 cu ft). Those figures represent increases of 129 liters (4.6 cu ft) and 30 liters (1.1 cu ft), respectively, compared with the Coupe.
Other practical upgrades include standard roof rails, new wheel and tire designs, additional exterior colors and two matte finishes. An electrochromic glass roof is also fitted, allowing occupants to adjust the amount of light entering the cabin through the center display.
Powertrain, performance and range
The 2027 Polestar 4 SUV will be available with single- and dual-motor powertrains. The rear-wheel-drive model produces 268 hp and 253 lb-ft (343 Nm) of torque. It reaches 62 mph (100 km/h) in 7.3 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 124 mph (200 km/h).
The all-wheel-drive version combines for 544 hp and 506 lb-ft (686 Nm), cutting the 62-mph sprint to 3.9 seconds. Its top speed remains 124 mph (200 km/h).
Both versions use a 100-kWh lithium-ion battery. The single-motor model is rated for 391 miles (630 kilometers) on the WLTP cycle, while the dual-motor version is rated for 373 miles (600 kilometers). DC fast charging at up to 200 kW takes about 30 minutes to replenish the battery from 10 to 80 percent.
V2L and U.S. market status
Bidirectional charging adds Vehicle-to-Load capability, allowing the Polestar 4 SUV to power external equipment at up to 3.3 kW. A new Camp mode is initially exclusive to the SUV, with Polestar planning to bring it to other models through a future software update.
The model's U.S. prospects have changed. Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller previously said the 4 SUV was coming to the United States, but the brand will not be permitted to sell cars there from the 2027 model year because it does not comply with the U.S. Connected Vehicles Rule. The regulation restricts certain connected vehicles linked to China or Russia, and Polestar is pulling out of the U.S. market.
