Saleen Automotive has previewed its next Mustang project, the SR Widebody, with a dark digital rendering that reveals dramatically flared fenders and a large trunk-mounted wing. The car is based on the current S650 Mustang, but Saleen has not yet confirmed its engine, power output, production timing, or reveal date.
The teaser arrives alongside a renewed effort to raise money from individual investors. Saleen is offering investment opportunities through Regulation Crowdfunding campaigns, making the funding pitch nearly as prominent as the car itself.
What the Saleen SR Widebody teaser shows
Most of the rendering remains concealed, but the visible bodywork points to a much wider design than anything currently listed in Saleen’s Mustang lineup. The front and rear fenders extend substantially beyond the standard car’s body, creating room for the more aggressive stance.
A large wing is mounted on the trunk lid. Its scale appears greater than the rear wing fitted to Ford’s Mustang GTD, a comparison that suggests Saleen is targeting serious aerodynamic performance with the SR Widebody.
Saleen has not said whether the project will use a Mustang GT or the track-focused Dark Horse as its starting point. The Dark Horse’s stiffer chassis and larger factory brakes would provide a more suitable foundation for such an aggressive build, but the company has not confirmed that choice.
Power remains unconfirmed
There is no announced engine specification or horsepower target for the SR Widebody. Saleen has taken a similar approach with its S1 supercar project, previewing the design before finalizing its mechanical details.
The company’s existing Mustang offerings establish a high-performance benchmark. Saleen’s Yellow Label package produces 775 hp, while the Black Label model tops the current range at 850 hp.
Ford’s Mustang GTD provides another reference point. It uses a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 rated at 815 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque, and carries a price above $325,000. Saleen has not indicated whether the SR Widebody will approach those figures or occupy a different position in the lineup.
Saleen seeks individual investors
Saleen is running a Regulation Crowdfunding campaign on Wefunder that offers a SAFE, or Simple Agreement for Future Equity, with a valuation cap of about $45 million. That structure differs from a conventional stock purchase at a fixed per-share price.
The company also has a separate Regulation Crowdfunding filing through Invown offering common stock at $1.50 per share. That campaign lists a maximum raise and a pre-money valuation just under $45 million. Both campaigns are aimed at individual backers rather than institutional investors.
Earlier investment packages ranged from $1,500 to $50,000, with the highest tier offering a 5 percent discount. The combined total raised across both platforms had previously been reported at about $110,000, although the live campaign totals can change as pledges are added or canceled.
For now, the SR Widebody remains a teaser rather than a fully specified production model. Saleen has shown the exterior direction and outlined its fundraising efforts, but the engine, final performance figures, pricing, and launch schedule are still open.
