BMW has unveiled the 2027 3 Series, bringing the brand’s Neue Klasse design language to its gas-powered sports sedan for the first time. The US lineup will launch in early 2027 with 330, 330 xDrive and M350 xDrive trims, while the range-topping M Performance model introduces 437 horsepower and a factory drift function.

Powertrain and performance

The 330 uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Buyers can choose rear-wheel drive or xDrive all-wheel drive, with both configurations using an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. BMW lists a 0-60 mph time of 5.9 seconds for the 330 and 330 xDrive.

At the top of the initial range, the M350 xDrive packs a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six rated at 437 hp and 428 lb-ft. BMW says it reaches 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. Both the four-cylinder and inline-six versions have an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph.

The M350 xDrive also receives model-specific bumpers, side skirts, blue M Sport brakes, black exterior trim, a rear spoiler and quad exhaust outlets. Standard wheels measure 19 inches, while 20-inch wheels are available.

Neue Klasse design and cabin technology

The redesigned sedan shares its basic visual language with the electric i3, including a similar rear taillight design and flush door handles. Unlike the i3, the combustion-powered 3 Series retains a traditional grille. Optional yellow M lights are integrated into the headlamp assemblies.

Inside, the 3 Series adopts BMW’s latest iDrive system and the full-width Panoramic iDrive display. A 17.9-inch trapezoidal touchscreen handles the main infotainment functions, while a digital gauge cluster sits ahead of the driver. The electric sibling’s central-spoke steering wheel returns, with haptic controls, while M Performance versions add a dedicated M wheel with M Mode and Boost toggles.

BMW also offers a head-up display. My Modes allows drivers to personalize cabin lighting and screen displays, and a TiVo-powered video app can stream television and movies when the vehicle is parked. An Amazon Alexa-powered AI assistant is part of the new iDrive system. Unlike larger BMW models such as the X5 and i7, the 3 Series does not offer a passenger display.

Drift Moment arrives after launch

The M350 xDrive will be the first M Performance vehicle to offer BMW’s “Drift Moment” technology. The system can cut power to the front wheels, allowing the all-wheel-drive sedan to behave more like a rear-drive car during controlled slides.

Drift Moment will not be active when the 2027 3 Series launches. BMW plans to add it through a software update sometime in 2027, making the feature a post-sale addition rather than standard launch functionality.

Pricing and availability

The 2027 BMW 3 Series arrives in the US in early 2027. Pricing starts at $49,900 with destination for the 330, while the 330 xDrive starts at $51,900. The M350 xDrive begins at $65,900.

BMW is also preparing the electric i3 for the same early-2027 timeframe. Reservations for the i3 open on September 29, and the base i3 50 starts at $61,500.
