BMW has revealed the first-ever i3 M60, an M Performance version of its new electric 3 Series sedan. The 2027 model is not scheduled to go on sale until next year, and BMW has not yet disclosed its output, acceleration, range or price. However, the company’s official images show the car wearing a selection of optional M Performance Parts.

The i3 M60 will sit above the regular i3 lineup as a faster, more aggressively styled electric sports sedan. It uses two electric motors to provide all-wheel drive, while its design previews a more serious performance direction for BMW’s next-generation electric cars.

Powertrain and performance

BMW describes the i3 M60 as “ultra-potent,” but the company is keeping the most important numbers private for now. The standard i3 50 xDrive produces 463 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque, or 645 Newton-meters, so the M60 is expected to exceed those figures.

The regular electric 3 Series sedan reaches 62 mph in 4.7 seconds and has a 124-mph, or 200-km/h, electronically limited top speed. BMW has not confirmed figures for the M60, though its higher-performance positioning points to a quicker launch and a higher maximum speed.

Range is also likely to fall below the standard model because of the M60’s performance focus. BMW estimates that the i3 50 xDrive can travel 446 to 468 miles under the EPA testing procedure, equivalent to 718 to 753 kilometers. In Europe, the regular i3 is rated at 567 miles, or 912 kilometers, under the WLTP cycle.

M Performance Parts add visual aggression

The reveal car is fitted with optional M Performance Parts, including multiple carbon-fiber additions. BMW says the equipment gives the i3 M60 a look closer to the more aggressive electric M3 that is expected to arrive next year. The same M Performance accessories will also be available for the gas-powered 3 Series.

These parts will be optional rather than standard equipment, so buyers seeking the full visual treatment will face additional cost. BMW has not detailed the complete equipment list or confirmed whether any of the parts bring functional aerodynamic or chassis benefits.

Price and U.S. availability

BMW has not announced pricing for the i3 M60. The 2027 i3 50 xDrive starts at $62,850 in the U.S., including destination charges, while the M350 xDrive starts at $67,250 before options. The M60 is expected to carry a premium over both models, with optional carbon-fiber parts pushing the final price higher.

The broader 3 Series and i3 rollout begins in the first quarter of 2027. BMW plans to introduce the i3 50 xDrive, M350 xDrive, 330 and 330 xDrive in that window. A plug-in-hybrid 3 Series is planned for Europe, while the lower-powered 318 and 320 gasoline models are not coming to the U.S.

Electric M3 remains on the horizon

The i3 M60 is not the full electric M3. BMW is expected to bring that model in 2027 with four electric motors and simulated gear changes. A new gasoline-powered M3 is not expected until the following year, although BMW has not officially confirmed its drivetrain strategy.
