Polestar plans to launch four new models by 2028 as it reshapes its lineup around higher performance and broader market coverage. The strategy begins with the Polestar 5 in 2026 and includes an expanded BST sub-brand intended to compete with BMW M and Mercedes-AMG.

The Geely-owned electric automaker’s upcoming range will also include a new Polestar 4 variant, a second-generation Polestar 2 and the Polestar 7 compact SUV. CEO Michael Lohscheller has positioned the program as more than a recovery effort following a difficult financial period that included a $900 million loan from parent company Geely.

Four new Polestar models by 2028

Polestar’s first major launch under this plan will be the Polestar 5, scheduled for 2026. The four-door flagship will be followed by another Polestar 4 variant, which is described as likely to be a wagon. The company has not provided final details for that derivative.

A second-generation Polestar 2 is planned for 2027. The next model is expected to move toward a more traditional sedan design and could grow beyond the current car’s 181.1-inch length. The source also describes a possible performance version aimed at the Tesla Model 3 Performance.

The fourth model, the Polestar 7, is due in 2028. It will sit in the premium compact C-SUV segment, giving Polestar a vehicle aimed at expanding its presence in the zero-emissions market.

BST becomes a broader performance brand

Polestar intends to turn BST, short for “Beast,” from a limited-run badge into a dedicated high-performance identity. The badge has so far been used on special versions of the Polestar 2.

According to Lohscheller, future BST models will bring sharper suspension tuning, more focused track dynamics and significantly quicker acceleration. High-performance versions are planned for the Polestar 2, Polestar 3 and Polestar 4.

The company is also considering an even more extreme Polestar 5 derivative. That model could be positioned against Audi RS products and other high-performance electric flagships. The move would reconnect Polestar with its earlier role as Volvo’s in-house performance division before it became a standalone automaker.

Polestar 5 performance and battery details

The Polestar 5 will use a 112.0-kilowatt-hour battery and 800-volt electrical architecture. In its performance specification, the electric grand tourer produces up to 884 horsepower and 748 lb-ft of torque.

Those figures establish the Polestar 5 as the clearest expression yet of the brand’s plan to enter the upper tier of electric performance cars. A more powerful Polestar 4 is also planned, although Polestar has not disclosed its output or timing beyond the broader 2026 product schedule.

What the new lineup means

Polestar is pursuing a faster and wider expansion at the same time. The Polestar 5 is intended to raise the brand’s performance profile, while the Polestar 7 should increase its reach in the compact SUV market. The larger BST strategy will determine whether Polestar can build a recognizable performance identity beyond limited editions.
