Polestar has announced the Polestar 7, a new premium compact SUV planned for launch in late 2026 or early 2027. The announcement gives the Swedish electric-car brand a smaller entry point, but leaves key details—including the vehicle’s styling, dimensions and technical specifications—undisclosed.

Polestar says the 7 will sit in the premium compact SUV class. In practical terms, that places it in the 4.2 to 4.5 metre segment, below the brand’s current Polestar 2, which is more than 4.6 metres long. The company has not confirmed a final length or provided images of the new model.

Compact SUV dimensions and platform

The Polestar 7’s likely positioning brings Volvo’s EX30 into focus. That compact electric SUV measures 4.23 metres long and uses Geely Group’s SEA platform, an architecture also shared by models including the smart #1 and smart #3.

Polestar has not officially confirmed the 7’s platform or related components. However, the brand’s relationship with Volvo and Geely Group points to a possible technical connection. The source material also describes the future model as likely to feature a sporty design, potentially with a coupe-like rear end, though that remains unconfirmed.

Production is planned for Europe. That location would help Polestar avoid duties applied to electric cars produced in China, according to the announcement.

Polestar’s move toward one architecture

The 7 could also mark a shift in Polestar’s product strategy. The company is preparing to move away from a multi-platform approach and toward a single architecture for future models, with the aim of reducing development costs.

Polestar’s lineup began with the limited-production Polestar 1 in 2017, a sports coupe with a 600 PS plug-in powertrain. The Polestar 2 followed, while the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 have expanded the brand’s SUV range. The Polestar 5 is scheduled to go on sale in the second half of 2025.

Launch timing and business outlook

Polestar expects the 7 to arrive between late 2026 and early 2027. The company has not announced pricing, battery capacity, range, output, drivetrain configurations or a specific on-sale date.

The automaker also expects 2025 to be the best year in its short history. Polestar attributes that outlook partly to its product rollout and partly to income from CO2 credits. Because it produces only electric cars, Polestar can join emissions pools with other manufacturers and help them lower their average emissions as measured by the European Commission.

Polestar has formed such a pool with Mercedes, Volvo Cars and smart. The company estimates the arrangement could generate millions of euros, adding another source of support as it develops the Polestar 7 and expands its range.
