Polestar is preparing to expand its electric lineup with the Polestar 5, a sleek four-seat saloon expected in the second half of 2025. The Swedish brand could also offer an early look at the Polestar 7, a premium compact SUV planned for late 2026 or early 2027.

The two models will take Polestar into higher-volume and higher-performance segments as it targets established premium rivals including BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Porsche and Tesla. Polestar has described 2025 as a pivotal year for the company, with the Polestar 5 representing the most immediate new-model arrival.

Polestar 5 powertrain and performance

Derived from the Precept concept first shown in 2020, the Polestar 5 will use a low-slung saloon body with an almost coupe-like rear profile. It will have four seats and an all-electric powertrain.

Polestar has confirmed that the car will use an 800-volt electrical architecture, designed to support fast charging. The company has not yet released the vehicle’s exact charging-speed figure.

The Polestar 5 is expected to be available with both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The most powerful versions could produce up to 900 PS, giving the model the output needed to challenge performance-focused electric cars such as the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S. Final power, acceleration, range, battery and pricing details have not been announced.

Polestar 5 launch timing

The Polestar 5 is scheduled to arrive in the second half of 2025. Polestar has not yet disclosed a starting price or provided a complete market-by-market rollout plan.

Its positioning will place it above smaller Polestar models and give the brand a flagship performance saloon with a more dramatic design than a conventional executive sedan. The 800-volt system and potential 900-PS output are currently the clearest technical indicators of its ambitions.

Polestar 7 compact SUV preview

The Polestar 7 is further away, but the company may preview the model during 2025. It is expected to be a premium compact SUV in the C segment, with a planned arrival between late 2026 and early 2027.

Exact dimensions have not been confirmed, although the expected length is between 4.2 and 4.5 meters. Its size and relationship with Volvo suggest a possible connection to the Volvo EX30, but Polestar’s version is expected to have its own, sportier styling.

Unlike the Polestar 5, the 7 is intended to broaden the brand’s appeal in the competitive compact-SUV market. Production is planned for Europe, a move designed to avoid duties applied to electric cars built in China. Polestar has not announced the 7’s price, battery, power output or final production location.

What Polestar buyers can expect

The Polestar 5 is the confirmed near-term headline model, combining an 800-volt platform with the possibility of 900 PS. The Polestar 7 remains a longer-term product, but a 2025 preview would provide the first substantial indication of how Polestar plans to enter the premium compact-SUV class.
