General Motors is introducing a new infotainment interface on the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado and 2027 GMC Sierra, and the system will retain Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. The smartphone platforms will operate alongside GM's native software instead of forcing drivers to switch between separate screens.

The move marks a notable change from GM's 2023 plan to remove CarPlay and Android Auto from its vehicles. However, the company has only confirmed the new interface for its upcoming light-duty pickups. GM has not confirmed that the system or smartphone mirroring will return across its broader lineup.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto share the screen

On the Silverado and Sierra, the new interface places the mirrored smartphone experience in a large window that occupies most of the infotainment display. GM's native functions remain accessible at the same time, allowing drivers to use vehicle controls and phone-based features without moving between multiple interfaces.

GM says the framework is flexible enough to support electric, gas, and diesel vehicles, but a spokesperson clarified that the 2027 light-duty pickups are currently the focus. Because these trucks use gas powertrains, they were already expected to support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; the significant change is the tighter integration between the systems.

New display hardware and truck-focused graphics

The updated system uses high-contrast display hardware intended to make key information easier to read quickly. It also introduces a mode-aware gauge cluster that changes its displayed information according to the selected drive mode.

That functionality is designed to be useful in situations such as off-roading or operating Super Cruise. GM is also upgrading the driver-assistance system's visual presentation with three-dimensional graphics showing detected traffic, lane markers, and other information in real time.

Redesigned home screen and availability

The infotainment home screen adopts a default split-view layout. When a phone is not being mirrored, drivers can manage vehicle settings while keeping navigation visible, with quick-access controls available on the same display.

GM has not announced pricing, detailed equipment availability, or a wider rollout schedule for the interface. For now, the confirmed application is limited to the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra light-duty pickups. The automaker's earlier plan to eliminate smartphone mirroring remains relevant, but this truck launch shows that GM is willing to provide a more integrated alternative in at least part of its portfolio.
