Jeremy Clarkson is putting three of his most recognizable The Grand Tour cars up for auction. The 1982 Lancia Montecarlo Spider, 1983 Alfa Romeo GTV6 and 1978 Lincoln Continental Mark V will be sold without reserve through Iconic Auctioneers at The Iconic Sale, held at the NEC Classic Motor Show in Birmingham, England, on November 14 and 15.

With no reserve price, none of the cars has a minimum threshold to meet. The highest bidder will take each one home. Iconic Auctioneers says the reason behind Clarkson’s decision to sell will become clearer during an upcoming season of Clarkson’s Farm, while Clarkson says he no longer gets many opportunities to use or enjoy the cars.

1982 Lancia Montecarlo Spider

The most historically significant car in the group is likely the Lancia Montecarlo Spider. Clarkson drove it with Richard Hammond and James May in The Grand Tour Presents: One for the Road, the Zimbabwe and Botswana special that became the trio’s final adventure together.

It was also the last car Clarkson drove on The Grand Tour. The Lancia was modified for its African journey with Ferrari 308 rear lights, four exhaust outlets, Lancia Delta Integrale wheels, plus a revised grille and headlight arrangement. Clarkson also replaced the leather seats with cloth items and installed a simple Alcantara-covered steering wheel without buttons to reduce the risk of electronic problems in extreme heat.

Rather than return the car after filming, Clarkson bought it for his collection. Iconic Auctioneers says it has since been refurbished and is now running.

1983 Alfa Romeo GTV6

The Alfa Romeo GTV6 appeared in the 2019 special Well Aged Scotch, in which Clarkson drove the car around Scotland’s North Coast 500. The auction listing records approximately 28,315 miles, with maintenance carried out in-house.

Its engine is Alfa Romeo’s 2.5-liter V6, a powerplant Clarkson had previously praised for its sound and smoothness. The car also has a personal history with its owner: Clarkson had owned it, regretted selling it, and later reacquired it. He is now offering it for sale again.

1978 Lincoln Continental Mark V

The largest car in the auction is Clarkson’s 1978 Lincoln Continental Mark V from Lochdown. That special featured Clarkson, Hammond and May traveling through Scotland in three oversized American cars.

The Lincoln uses a 6.6-liter V8 fitted with a nitrous-injection system for filming. The system remains installed, although it reportedly did not work especially well because the engine lacked the additional modifications required to use it effectively. The car also retains the Cartier clock Clarkson admired and a set of bagpipes in the trunk.

For collectors, the Lancia carries the strongest connection to The Grand Tour’s original trio. However, all three cars combine television history with a direct link to Clarkson’s personal collection, and each will be decided by bidding at the November sale.
