Tesla has delayed the second-generation Roadster demonstration again, moving the event from October 1 to October 15, 2026. The company says severe weather forecast for central Texas forced the change because the showcase is planned as an outdoor event.

Tesla announced the revised date on X after tracking the forecast with local meteorologists. The company made the decision several days before the original event, but it did not identify a new venue or provide further details about the demonstration.

Why Tesla postponed the Roadster event

Tesla described the change as a weather-related decision rather than a technical delay. In its event update, the company said severe conditions were predicted and that the outdoor-only format left it with little choice but to reschedule.

Invitees had reportedly been warned that the showcase could move if conditions worsened. The update confirms that live weather in central Texas is currently a key factor in the event schedule, rather than simply a backdrop for a studio presentation.

Flight restrictions from the Federal Aviation Administration over the Waco and McGregor, Texas, area through October 2 have also linked the event to the SpaceX rocket test site near McGregor, according to invite-based reports. Tesla has not officially confirmed the exact location.

A long-delayed electric sports car

The Roadster was first shown as a prototype in November 2017, when Tesla initially promised production for 2020. That target passed, followed by several additional dates as the car’s development and showcase plans moved further into the decade.

Elon Musk’s statements from November 2025 continued to point to production in 2027 or 2028. The latest postponement does not appear to alter that guidance, although it adds another delay to the car’s public demonstration schedule.

Tesla has not yet confirmed which technology demonstrations will take place on October 15. Details about the Roadster’s final specifications, performance claims and production configuration remain pending through the company’s official channels.

What reservation holders should know

For people holding Roadster reservations, the immediate change is another two-week wait for the demonstration. Tesla has not announced changes to pricing, specifications or the previously stated 2027 or 2028 production outlook.

The company’s latest update also leaves the exact venue unresolved. Unless Tesla changes the event format, the outdoor requirement means future weather conditions could remain a scheduling consideration. For now, the next target is October 15, 2026.
