Only six brand-new Mazda MX-5s will be finished in Sunflower Yellow, and interested buyers will have to win the right to purchase one at Fuji Speedway. Called the Roadster FSW Ver.2, the dealer-built special is based on Japan’s current Roadster S Special Package and will be sold only through four participating Mazda dealers.

The project comes from Koshin Mazda, Shizuoka Mazda, Tokai Mazda Sales and Kanto Mazda. While it is not a standard Mazda Motor Corporation production model, the cars will receive their paint and authentication work at Mazda Engineering & Technology in Hiroshima. Each example will include a certificate confirming its origin.

Sunflower Yellow returns to the MX-5

Sunflower Yellow previously appeared on the facelifted NC-generation Miata. In the United States, the color was sold as Competition Yellow on 2009 and 2010 model-year cars. It has not been offered on an ND-generation MX-5 until this project.

The yellow finish extends beyond the exterior. The package includes color-matched interior door trim, air-conditioning vents and the key fob, while the cabin uses Jet Black Mica interior trim. The work is performed to factory-level standards at Mazda’s Hiroshima engineering facility rather than as a conventional dealer wrap or aftermarket repaint.

Price includes a Hiroshima experience

The yellow conversion package costs ¥1,452,000, or roughly $9,400, on top of the standard Roadster price. That fee covers the repaint, the additional interior detailing, Mazda Engineering & Technology certification and a two-day, one-night Hiroshima tour.

The included trip takes owners to Mazda headquarters, the Mazda Museum and the E&T facility where their cars are built and certified. The package therefore combines the limited color treatment with factory documentation and an automaker-focused ownership experience.

How to enter the MX-5 lottery

Applications open during Mazda Fan Festa 2026 at Fuji Speedway on October 3 and 4. Three cars will be allocated on each day, with applications accepted from 9 a.m. to noon local time. Winners will be announced on the event’s main stage before the festival ends.

Applicants must attend in person, inspect the car at the participating dealer booth and listen to a staff explanation before submitting an entry. Each person may submit one application per day. The winning purchase right is tied to the named applicant and cannot be transferred.

The Roadster FSW Ver.2 is intended for the Japan market. Sales, delivery and service will be handled by one of the four participating dealers, making attendance at Fuji Speedway essential for anyone hoping to secure one of the six cars.
