Jaguar Land Rover is recalling 23,677 vehicles because a failed DC-to-DC converter could stop the 12-volt system from charging, eventually causing a loss of engine power and exterior lighting. The recall covers several Range Rover, Land Rover and Jaguar models built between 2019 and 2024.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, affected owners will receive recall notices by November 13. Dealers will perform a software update at no charge.

How the electrical fault can cause power loss

The DC-to-DC converter manages voltage between the vehicle’s electrical systems. If the component fails, the 12-volt charging system will no longer receive the power it needs. That can trigger a chain reaction as other vehicle systems lose access to stable electrical power.

JLR says the condition can ultimately result in lost engine power and exterior lighting. The combination creates a potential safety concern, particularly if the vehicle is being driven when the fault develops or if lighting becomes unavailable.

The remedy is a software update rather than a hardware replacement. Owners can have the work completed free of charge by a local JLR dealer.

Models included in the JLR recall

The recall applies to the following vehicles and model years:

  • 2019-2024: Range Rover Sport
  • 2020-2024: Range Rover Evoque, Range Rover, Discovery Sport and Defender
  • 2021-2024: Range Rover Velar, Discovery, Jaguar E-Pace and Jaguar F-Pace

The Range Rover Sport accounts for almost 11,000 of the potentially affected vehicles, making it the most heavily represented model in the recall. The Discovery Sport is listed at the other end of the scale, with three vehicles potentially involved.
