The recall does not include every F-150 from those model years. The affected trucks fall within specific VIN ranges, and Ford expects to mail owner notification letters on September 21, 2026. What is wrong with the F-150 fuel tank straps?

The fuel tank is held to the truck’s frame by metal straps. On affected F-150s, the front strap attachment may not have been installed correctly at the factory. Vibration and regular driving can allow the strap to loosen over time, reducing the tank’s support.

NHTSA identifies fuel tank detachment while driving as the safety hazard. If the tank shifts or falls from the truck, it could leak fuel or separate entirely from the vehicle, creating a risk for the occupants and other road users.

Ford has not reported any crashes or injuries related to the condition so far. Because the issue is linked to factory assembly rather than mileage or vehicle age, trucks that remain unsold at dealerships may also be included in the campaign.

The recall spans selected F-150s from the 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027 model years. It covers roughly three and a half years of production and includes trucks across different trims and cab configurations, although eligibility depends on the individual vehicle identification number.
