Porsche is giving owners of select modern classics a factory-style way to add current infotainment technology without replacing their cars. The latest Porsche Classic Communication Management Plus, or PCCM Plus, brings wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to more than 300,000 Porsche vehicles from the 2009 to 2016 model years.

The retrofit is available for the 997.2 and 991.1-generation 911, the 987.2 Boxster and Cayman, and the 981 Boxster and Cayman. Porsche says the new system is designed to work with the existing electronics and interior rather than appearing as a generic aftermarket installation.

Wireless smartphone connectivity

The headline upgrade is wireless smartphone integration. PCCM Plus uses Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to connect Apple and Android devices, eliminating the need to plug in a USB cable for every drive. A USB connection remains available for owners who prefer a wired setup or need to charge a phone.

Information can continue to appear in the instrument cluster, including navigation directions and music details. The system also supports factory-fitted sound systems, parking sensors and reversing cameras. In the Boxster and Cayman, parking sensors gain a visual display in addition to their existing audible warnings.

Features beyond Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Porsche has added several functions that use the car’s existing vehicle data. The trip computer can show oil temperature and oil pressure, while the navigation system can display speed limits and satellite imagery. A Scenic Roads function can also suggest routes with particularly twisty sections.

Depending on the market, the system supports DAB, HD, FM and AM radio. Bluetooth audio streaming includes track and artist information, while a nano-SIM slot enables 4G connectivity. Maps can be updated over the air, and certain markets allow video streaming when the vehicle is stationary.

Factory-style design for older Porsches

The new PCCM Plus uses a seven-inch high-resolution touchscreen and retains compatibility with the multifunction steering wheel where equipped. Porsche has also designed the unit to match the car’s cabin, preserving physical controls and avoiding the oversized tablet look common to some aftermarket upgrades.

Owners can configure the virtual Porsche shown on the display to match their car’s exterior color. The result is intended to make the retrofit feel integrated with the vehicle rather than added years later.

Availability for 911, Boxster and Cayman

PCCM Plus is part of Porsche’s ongoing Classic retrofit program, which has already brought updated infotainment to older models. This latest version extends the program across key 911, Boxster and Cayman generations from 2009 through 2016.

For buyers who want modern navigation and smartphone access while preserving an older Porsche’s original dashboard, the system provides an automaker-developed alternative to a conventional aftermarket head unit. Porsche has not provided pricing in the available announcement.
