A 1990 MCA Centenaire, the carbon-fiber supercar created in Monaco with Lamborghini involvement, will go under the hammer at Broad Arrow Auctions’ Zoute Concours Auction on October 9, 2026. The early car carries an estimate of €900,000 to €1,200,000, or approximately $967,000 to $1.29 million.

The auction will take place at Approach Golf in Knokke-Heist, Belgium, during Zoute Grand Prix Car Week. Only five Centenaires were built, making this one of the rarest boutique supercars of its period. Broad Arrow describes the offered example as the car that launched the entire MCA project.

Monaco-built supercar with Lamborghini power

Monte Carlo Automotive developed the Centenaire around a carbon-fiber monocoque, a construction approach widely credited as a first for a production road car. The project was led by Fulvio-Maria Ballabio, a former Formula 2 and CART driver, with technical director Carlo Chiti and former Alfa Romeo sporting director Pierluigi Corbari also involved.

Behind the driver sits Lamborghini’s 5.2-liter V12, the same basic engine used in the Countach 5000 QV. The engine sends its power to the rear wheels through a ZF six-speed manual transmission.

The Centenaire’s name commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Automobile Club de Monaco. The car was presented to Prince Albert II, and his backing helped establish the model as a supercar representing the Principality.

Five cars and a 220-mph racing connection

Monte Carlo Automotive built only five Centenaires between 1990 and 1992. Two were later adapted for Le Mans trials and reportedly reached 220 mph on the Mulsanne Straight, giving the limited-run road car a direct connection to high-speed endurance testing.

The auction car spent its early years in development, testing and presentation work. Lamborghini then retained it at its Sant’Agata Bolognese factory for roughly a decade before giving it to Ballabio in the early 2000s.

Original colors and documented provenance

The Centenaire later appeared in blue at Rétromobile in 2007, displayed beside the one-off Lamborghini Pregunta concept from the same collection. Broad Arrow sold that concept at the inaugural Zoute auction the previous year.

A bodywork restoration carried out around 2016 returned the car to its original Ivory White paint over red leather. The color combination was intended to echo Monaco’s flag, while documentation accompanying the sale says the red interior remained untouched during the restoration.

The car will be offered with a history file that includes the original supply contract between Lamborghini and Ballabio for the V12 engines, along with period photographs from the factory and Rétromobile. That paperwork, together with the car’s factory history and extremely limited production, will be central to the bidding when the Centenaire reaches the block.

Auction timing and estimate

Broad Arrow will present the MCA Centenaire on October 9, 2026, at its Zoute Concours Auction in Belgium. The €900,000-to-€1,200,000 estimate places the car firmly among the major collector-car offerings of the event, with the final result likely to reflect its condition, provenance and status as one of only five examples.
